Most of the style is in the stylesheet, not floating around inside each cell tag. Further, the basic structure hinges on what tag is inside the TD, not which class is set on the TD.
The 16th has the .today classname to make it blue. Mouse over the yellow days to see their :hover style.
Each cell of the table has either a SPAN or an A tag in it.
